Fraser Fifield & Graeme Stephen

Tolbooth, Stirling

Celebrating 25 years of critically acclaimed musical partnership, Fraser Fifield (Ignition Trad Award 2015) and Graeme Stephen (Innovation Award 2013 & Instrumentalist of the Year 2011) blend a worldwide range of musical influences through a Scottish cultural filter, blurring genre distinctions. The versatility of both musicians has led to a long and colourful list of musical collaborations with respected artists in Scotland and internationally. Recently Graeme has been re-scoring and performing a range of classic silent films while Fraser’s recently released 8th studio album, ‘Piobaireachd/Pipe Music’, has received extensive airplay and glowing reviews. Graeme’s guitar provides the perfect foil for Fifield’s low whistle, saxophone, bagpipes, kaval, cajon and compositions. Together they make a truly original sound, exploratory by nature, rooted in Scottish tradition.

“Fraser Fifield and Graeme Stephen’s set travelled from the Celtic countries, with Fifield’s super-fluent and expressive low whistle playing borne on Stephen’s keenly inventive guitar rhythms, to suggestions of the cafes of Andalusia and gypsy weddings of eastern Europe and back via ruggedly riffing pipes and guitar, all the while retaining the spontaneity of the jazz ethos” – (Rob Adams, The Herald)

This is a cabaret show, with limited capacity, ensuring a special intimate performance.
